Music
Music has always had the power to stir emotions, ignite passions, and motivate people to take action. In the Music category,
students are invited to harness the transformative potential of music to raise awareness about the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) and environmental issues. Through performance, music transcends barriers and reaches the heart,
allowing artists to communicate complex ideas and inspire action in unique and compelling ways.
Solo Performance
A Solo Performance in Music is an opportunity for students to showcase their individual talent and creativity. Whether playing an instrument, singing, or combining both, solo performances allow students to express their personal connection to environmental issues through the universal language of music. Participants can select an existing piece of music that highlights environmental themes, or compose their own work that speaks to the listener about the urgency of taking action on sustainability.
Solo performances should be highly polished and demonstrate a high level of skill, emotional depth, and artistic expression. Students are encouraged to select music that resonates with them personally and effectively conveys a connection to nature or environmental issues.
A well-rehearsed performance, accompanied by an artist statement, will help the audience understand the deeper meaning behind the piece and the artist's perspective on environmental stewardship.
Application Guidelines
- Solo Performance: The project must be performed by a single student, showcasing either vocal or instrumental abilities, or a combination of both.
- File Format: The performance video must be uploaded to YouTube and submitted as a link in the application.
- Artist Statement: The statement should explain the choice of music, its environmental significance, and the student's personal connection to the
message. The statement must be submitted as a PDF or Word document with the following naming
format: Country_projectname_statement.
Judging Criteria
1. Technical Precision: Judges will assess the accuracy of notes, rhythm, and overall execution, as well as the quality of tonal sound and fidelity
to the score.
2. Artistic Interpretation: The emotional depth of the performance, the clarity of phrasing, and the artist's connection to the music will be key
factors in evaluating the overall performance.
3. Relevance: The artist’s statement must clearly communicate the environmental message of the performance and its connection to the
SDGs. Judges will evaluate how effectively the music conveys its environmental themes to the audience.
